It runs on its own. There's no button to press.
The moment a full breakdown is finished and marked complete, writeback starts automatically and pushes the verified benefits into your practice management software. You don't have to open the breakdown, review it first, or approve anything.
Basic breakdowns don't trigger it
Writeback runs on full breakdowns only. A basic breakdown updates the eligibility line on the patient's appointment note — the status and the date — and stops there. It doesn't write benefits, deductibles, maximums, used amounts, the plan note, or the plan's last-verified date.
If you need verified benefits to land inside your system, run a full breakdown.
What has to be true for it to run
The verification finished as a completed full breakdown. Ones that ended in Action Required, Failed or Unavailable have nothing verified to write.
Writeback is enabled on your account.
For OpenDental, the API key from Stratus has been pasted into OpenDental.
We can match the patient to an insurance plan in your system. If the plan was deleted or the patient was unlinked, there's nowhere to write.
Running it again yourself
Open the breakdown and click the writeback badge at the top. If the writeback failed or only partly succeeded, a Rerun Writeback button appears in that panel. Rerunning is safe — it starts the whole write over from the verified data rather than layering a second copy on top.
If the writeback completed successfully, there's no rerun button. It already did its job, and running it again would only re-clear and re-write the same values.
