You can, code by code, on the form builder. This is the right tool when your team's hand-entered figure for a particular code is more reliable than a fresh verification, and you'd rather writeback left it alone.
How to do it
Go to Form Builder in the left-hand menu and open the form you use.
Scroll to the Procedure Codes section.
Beside each code there's a small icon. Green means the code is included in writeback. Red means it's excluded. Click the icon to switch it.
Hovering tells you which way it's set — "Included in writeback (click to exclude)" or "Excluded from writeback (click to include)."
The legend at the top of the form builder shows the same two states if you need a reminder.
What excluding actually does
An excluded code is still verified. It still appears in your breakdown and in the PDF with everything we confirmed. The only difference is that writeback won't create or update a benefit row for it in your practice software — whatever your team entered for that code stays.
Two things to know
Exclusions belong to the form. If you use more than one form, setting a code aside on one form doesn't set it aside on the others. Check each form you actually run.
The icons only appear if writeback is set up. If your account doesn't have writeback enabled, or the OpenDental API key hasn't been saved yet, you won't see them at all. That's expected — there's nothing to exclude from.
If you need something broader
This control is per code. It won't hold back a whole category, the deductibles, or the maximums — those write whenever writeback runs on a full breakdown. If you need something wider than a handful of codes protected, email [email protected] and we'll work out the right setup with you.
